St Lucia, a jewel on the edge of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, is celebrating the arrival of a new dining establishment, 'The Estuary Table.' Located with prime views overlooking the St Lucia Estuary, the restaurant officially opened its doors on October 26th, offering a fresh take on South African cuisine with a strong emphasis on local ingredients and sustainable practices.
'The Estuary Table' aims to cater to both the discerning palates of international tourists and the beloved local community. The menu features a variety of dishes inspired by the region's rich biodiversity, from freshly caught seafood – reflecting St Lucia’s deep-sea fishing heritage – to ethically sourced game and organically grown produce from nearby farms within the uMkhanyakude District Municipality. Signature dishes include pan-seared line fish with peri-peri lemon butter and a slow-cooked oxtail potjie, promising a true taste of Zululand.
Owner and head chef, Zola Mkhize, expressed her excitement about contributing to St Lucia's growing appeal. "Our vision for 'The Estuary Table' was to create more than just a restaurant; we wanted it to be a destination where the natural beauty of St Lucia meets exceptional culinary artistry," said Mkhize. "We’re passionate about showcasing the incredible produce our district has to offer and providing a memorable experience that complements the magic of iSimangaliso."
The restaurant’s design incorporates natural elements, with expansive windows that frame the estuary, offering diners glimpses of hippos and crocodiles in their natural habitat. 'The Estuary Table' is set to become a popular spot for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, adding another compelling reason for visitors and residents alike to explore the vibrant heart of St Lucia.
